Piroctone Olamine

Piroctone olamine is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, mainly used to inhibit the excessive reproduction of scalp fungi (such as Malassezia), thereby reducing dandruff production, it improves the scalp microenvironment by blocking fungal energy metabolism, regulating the differentiation of scalp keratinocytes, and has both anti-inflammatory and oil control effects. It is widely used in anti-dandruff shampooing products. 1. Mechanism of Action: ① Inhibit fungal activity: By interfering with the enzyme system in the fungal mitochondria, inhibit the growth and metabolism of dandruff-causing fungi such as Malassezia, and reduce their excessive reproduction; ② Regulate keratin metabolism: Reduce abnormal proliferation of scalp keratinocytes and alleviate dandruff problems caused by keratin accumulation; ③ Anti-inflammatory effect: Inhibit the release of inflammatory factors and relieve scalp itching, redness, swelling and other discomforts. 2. Application Scope: ① Anti-dandruff shampoo/conditioner: As the core anti-dandruff ingredient, the concentration is usually 0.1%-1%, long-term use can maintain the balance of scalp flora; ② Scalp care products: added to some anti-hair loss or oil control products to help improve the scalp environment; ③ Other daily chemical fields: used in a few antibacterial soaps or detergents to enhance the antibacterial effect. 3. Safety and Precautions: ① Mildness: Compared with traditional anti-dandruff ingredients (such as selenium disulfide and salicylic acid), it is less irritating and suitable for people with sensitive scalps; ② Usage recommendations: Avoid contact with eyes. If allergies (such as rash, burning sensation) occur, stop using and rinse thoroughly; ③ Stability: It needs to be used with specific surfactants to preserve activity and is recommended to use it within 6 months after opening.
